Why you need a Visa<\/h2>\n

For countries outside the EU you need a Visa to go to school there. The US government has different Visa categories with fixed procedures and deadlines. A Visa only entitles you to a temporary stay and serves to protect the host countries.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

USA \u2013 J-1 and F-1<\/h2>\n

For public high schools in the USA, the J-1 Visa is standard. It is applied for by a licensed exchange organization and is valid for one school year. Students are placed at a public high school and live with a host family; school attendance is free of charge. For private high schools, you need the F-1 Visa, which you apply for at the US embassy using a form from your school. The F-1 Visa allows flexible school choice but requires school fees.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Visas in Canada, Australia and New Zealand<\/h2>\n

Canada requires a study permit depending on the length of stay. No Visa is required for stays of less than six months; a study permit must be applied for for longer school visits. Australia and New Zealand require a student Visa or student permit. Apply for your Visa in good time \u2013 at least several weeks before departure.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Visas in Europe<\/h2>\n

Within the EU (e.g. Ireland, Spain, France) German citizens do not need a Visa. However, you should still carry residence permits and school confirmations with you.
